During a Nintendo Direct in February 2023, developer Monolithsoft announced that Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster will be released for Nintendo Switch in Summer 2023.
Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean is a Gamecube JRPG developed by Monolith Soft and tri-Crescendo and released in Japan on December 5, 2003 with global releases over the next two years.
It was purpose-built to deal with the console’s tiny lineup of JRPGs, and despite positive reviews from critics and die-hard fans, it didn’t sell well. However, even with low sales, the prequel game Baten Kaitos Origins was released, which proved to be about the same level as the previous game in the series.
Embark on an adventure of epic proportions in a dimension where lands float in the sky as you too explore the magical world of Baten Kaitos as you try to protect Kalas and his friend Zelha from an evil threat. The pleasingly drawn characters of this original RPG give Baten Kaitos extremely catchy graphics, and the card-based combat system (the game has over 1,000 types to collect and use) gives it unexpected dynamism.
