The Halo Infinite Season 3 alpha build seems to have leaked online, hinting at the yearly amount of content 343 Industries plans to add to their game. The news of the leak came just as Halo Infinite launched a new Noble Intention event and also introduced playlists for community-created Forge maps.
As with most modern online games, each new multiplayer update for Halo Infinite goes through some pretty extensive testing before launch. Thanks to extensive testing by 343 Industries, it is extremely difficult to ensure tightness against leaks. Details about Halo Infinite’s content tended to emerge before the official announcement even before the game’s release in late 2021. This trend wasn’t just limited to multiplayer features, as some of Halo Infinite’s early leaks also revealed cut campaign content.
In regards to this leak, insiders with access to the latest Halo Infinite alpha build claim that the upcoming season will focus on Iratus, a previously revealed AI construct linked to the Exiles, the game’s main villains. An early prototype of the upcoming update also suggests that 343 Industries is planning to make the highly anticipated Infection Mode the main event of Season 3. Zombie mode was last introduced in the series in 2015 with the Xbox One exclusive Halo 5: Guardians. In addition, as part of the same leak, several screenshots of two new maps code-named Forbidden and Crystal Cave got into the network.
A Halo insider also revealed that 343 Industries is planning to add new weapons with distinctive animations to Halo Infinite. However, apparently, this novelty is not included in the roadmap of the third season. The source claims that the debut of the unnamed weapon is scheduled only for the sixth season. Other rumors from the leak suggest that the developer is currently working on over 20 new maps, as well as additional start menu and match screen backgrounds.
This latest leak is not the first time content from the game’s third season has leaked prematurely. A well-known industry insider already leaked two Halo Infinite Season 3 maps in November. Both levels – Cliffhanger and Oasis – should appear in the game in 2023.
The Season 3 leak coincides with a recent report that 343 Industries has canceled plans to create new Halo Infinite story content. All future updates to the game are expected to focus solely on its multiplayer features, with insiders alleging that the developer has stopped work on single-player content following a massive restructuring that saw the layoffs of dozens of employees, including some executives.
Halo Infinite now available on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
