The wait has been long and tedious, but The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is almost here. Nintendo has been very reluctant to provide any information about Link’s new open-world adventure, but to wrap up the recent Nintendo Direct, we were shown a gameplay trailer that leaves nothing to be desired, and we’ve also been given pre-order details.
The new trailer is a bit more in-depth than the short teasers shown in the past, running a little over two minutes. In this time we see a much darker Hyrule, seemingly infested with flying enemies, as well as new areas both in the sky and on the ground and underground. We hear an ominous voice ordering his minions to rise and sweep across Hyrule, and see dark energy sweeping across the land, seemingly mutating existing Breath of the Wild enemies. Gameplay-wise, Link appears to have a new magic gauntlet for advanced physics-based abilities, building on its predecessor, in addition to homing arrows. The highlights, however, are the hot air balloon, tractor and flying platform, all of which can be controlled by Link, and look rather tentative – maybe the sequel to Breath of the Wild will now be able to construct vehicles yourself?
Nintendo also officially announced the start of pre-orders for Tears of the Kingdom and introduced the Collector’s Edition of the game and a new Link amiibo. The Collector’s Edition includes a steel book case, art book, collection of pins and more.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom erscheint am 12. May 2023 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
