Normally, when we talk about Rian Johnson, we either think of his work on Star Wars, or his mystery films Daggers in the Back and its sequel, Glass Onion.
However, it is very likely that, soon, we will know the filmmaker for another mystery production, Poker Facethe new series that has premiered in Peacock and that, if we are lucky, it will arrive this month, at the earliest, in Spain.
We have already talked on some occasion about this new series starring Natasha Lyonnefrom Russian Doll, and which has a cast that includes Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nick Nolte, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Benjamin Bratt, Colton Ryan, Megan Suri, Brandon Micheal Hall o Scott Vogel, among others.
Natasha Lyonne stars as Charlie, a casino worker with a preternatural aptitude for detecting lies. When she escapes from the casino, pursued by her boss, Charlie begins to stop on her journey across the United States to solve the most surreal crimes.
A renewed version of Colombo
In the United States, where Poker Face is already available on Peacock, many compare the series of Rian Johnson with the mythical cases of Colombo.
As compiled in Wired, Poker Face recovers tropes such as showing who the murderer is, so that later the protagonist unravels the web of lies that are released to her face, or that radar to catch the criminal in a loophole.
They have also highlighted the love of Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne herself for the serie of Colombo, which Peter Falk starred since 1971.
We hope that Poker Face arrives among the original contents of SkyShowtime, the platform that, among other services, will bring together Peacock in Spain. Supposedly, the debut in our country of SkyShowtime will be this February, but we still have no confirmed date.
Be that as it may, if you’re a fan of mystery series, keep Poker Face on your radar to enjoy what’s new from Rian Johnson on the small screen.
