Those who have always wanted to experience the thrill of the deadly games of the Netflix TV series Squid Game will be able to do so – without risking dying – with Squid Game – Sandbox VRa Virtual Reality experience arriving in the San Francisco company’s arcades by the end of 2023.
Sandbox VR just announced a Virtual Reality experience based on the hugely popular South Korean TV series, which will allow players to “drop into iconic Squid Game environments to become competitors in a series of heart-pounding challenges”. The goal, as every viewer of the Netflix show well knows, is to survive until the last, in order to be the only person still standing and win the multi-million dollar prize pool, which grows every time one of the contestants goes bad. As with all other Sandbox VR games, players will be able to review, share and download a mixed reality highlight video after the game is over.
Sandbox VR hasn’t shared any further details regarding Squid Game’s Virtual Reality game, however looking at its past productions we can expect an experience capable of hosting up to 6 players simultaneouslyall free to move around a large room and equipped with tracking devices on wrists and ankles, a haptic suit and a weapon or prop as large as the virtual counterpart. Who knows if we will also have to lick (virtually speaking) the Dalgona biscuitas happens in the second game of the TV series…
The only bad news, at least for us Italians, is represented by the spread of Sandbox VR rooms. There are thirty-two around the world (consult them on the official website, under the heading Locations), twenty-six of which are in the United States of America, four in Asia and only two in Europe (in Alsfeld in Germany and in London in England). If you are planning a trip there at the end of 2023, now you know what to do.
