The spread of misinformation hurts small studios, including the developer of The Day Before.
The players’ relationship of trust in the Fntastic development studio has cracks. Since the survival MMO was announced, many have had doubts about the authenticity of the game or even its existence.
The release date of the game has been pushed back several times. The first scenes from the gameplay trailer also looked just too good, which raised the first doubts.
In January, the developer then promised to show a new gameplay video for The Day Before. However, this had to be postponed due to a naming rights violation that removed the product page on Steam.
At the beginning of February, the ten-minute gameplay video was submitted. However, that was not well received by the players either. It was referred to as a “walking simulator” because the game scenes shown consisted primarily of walking around the game world.
With a recently published statement, the developers are now addressing the issue of misinformation. You have to take action against it, because something like this harms small and medium-sized studios, like Fntastic.
Spreading false facts also has a mental impact on the team. Therefore, after the release, we will think about how to help inexperienced developers deal with it.
Fntasic’s statement:
“We all live in an era of misinformation and a lack of fact checking. Anyone can say anything for clicks, and everyone will believe it. Misinformation needs to be tackled as it can harm not only us but other indies and small/medium sized studios as well. It also has a mental impact on the members of such teams. After the release of The Day Before, we will think about how we can help novice developers deal with counterfeiting and provide resources for it.”
“Destroying is easy. Creating is difficult.”
