In Switzerland, fiber optics currently accounts for around 25 percent of broadband connections. Two fiber optic access technologies are particularly widespread: P2P (Point to Point over the Active Optical Network – AON) and P2MP (Point to Multipoint over the Passive Optical Network – PON). With a speed of up to 10 gigabits per second, XGS-PON is currently the fastest technology for fiber optic connections.
With the new FRITZ!Box models for fiber optics, users also get a router for fiber optic connections that is easy to install and operate. A clear user interface and free apps make using the router child’s play. The sustainable concept of the FRITZ!Box with many integrated home network functions, energy-efficient operation, regular updates and long-term product maintenance is therefore also available for all fiber optic connections. Users also benefit from scalable home network solutions with FRITZ!Repeaters, powerline devices or smart home products. Thanks to the FRITZ! The well-known mesh technology creates a comprehensive home network that optimally distributes the fiber speed in the digital home and significantly reduces energy requirements: Compared to the use of two devices – modem and router – up to 40 percent of the electricity costs can be saved with a combination device .
FRITZ!Box 5590: The new glass fiber flagship
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber in the respective edition for AON and XGS-PON connections is a complete solution for direct Internet access via fiber optics. The SFP module suitable for the respective technology is already inserted in the integrated slot for fiber optic modules. The new FRITZ!Box offers flexibility and stable connections with modern Wi-Fi 6 (4 x 4) with wireless transmission rates of up to 3.6 Gbit/s. A 2.5 Gbit/s port that can be used as a WAN and LAN connection, four additional gigabit LAN and two USB 3.0 interfaces complete the high-speed equipment.
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Edition XGS-PON has also received BBF.247 certification from the global Broadband Forum (BBF) for XGS-PON fiber optic technology. The certification confirms the conformity of the FRITZ!Box 5590 with the important standard and thus the smooth use of the FRITZ!Box in such fiber optic networks.
FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber XGS-PON: entry-level model for fiber optic connections up to 10 Gbit/s
The FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber XGS-PON, which is also BBF.247-certified, offers the complete FRITZ!Box functionality directly on the fiber optic connection and is supplied with the appropriate fiber optic module (FRITZ!SFP XGS-PON with SC/UPC socket). For reliable and secure wireless transport of data in the network, the FRITZ!Box 5530 XGS-PON, like the already successful model for AON connections, is equipped with the new Wi-Fi 6 and achieves transmission rates of up to 3 Gbit/s in the WLAN. s. A 2.5 Gbit/s and two 1 Gbit/s LAN sockets ensure the ultra-fast distribution of data, including to wired network devices.
Strong as a center in the WLAN mesh
As a WLAN mesh center, the fiber optic models now available are also prepared for the highest demands in the home network. In the WiFi mesh, distributed WiFi nodes (e.g. FRITZ!Box and several FRITZ!Repeaters) are combined into a single intelligent WiFi network. The user can select the FRITZ!Repeater(s) to be used from numerous models and thus set up a modular WiFi mesh network that meets their needs. The FRITZ!Box acts as the center of the FRITZ! Mesh and actively controls all access points, so that WLAN end devices used in the home network are always registered at the access point with the best connection (WLAN mesh steering).
Telephony and smart home options for every requirement
All new models integrate a telephone system with many convenience functions and up to six cordless telephones via a DECT base station (e.g. all FRITZ!Fon models). IP telephones and smartphones can also be connected to fully-fledged telephones via WLAN. The FRITZ!Box 5590 also has two ports for analog telephones or fax machines. With an integrated answering machine, local and online phone books and numerous convenience functions, nothing is left to be desired when it comes to telephony – even in a professional environment. The FRITZ!Box also controls smart home devices such as FRITZ!DECT 500 and FRITZ!DECT 440 or the smart FRITZ!DECT 301/302 radiator controls via DECT radio.
The new fiber optic routers from AVM are now commercially available at the following recommended retail prices:
