It’s been claimed for years, but this time it’s the right one! Since December 2021, we know that Alan Wake 2 is in development at Remedy alongside Control 2. Two months later, we have the right to news, and they are good!
Alan Wake II: the release in 2023 seems to be confirmed
Expected for 2023 on a date yet to be specified, Alan Wake II is the fulfillment of a wish expressed by fans in 2010 and the release of the first opus. Using the engine developed in-house, the title will take the form of a true survival-horror, with much more advanced gameplay and storytelling than in the first game. We are also promised a real technical slapand we should be able to see it soon thanks to a demo on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Last October, we learned from the mouth of Tero Virtala, CEO of the studio, that the project was really starting to take shape, and that the test phases were encouraging.
Since then, Remedy has been relatively discreet, and for good reason. The Finnish studio is currently developing four more gamesdont Control 2, Codename Condor (with 505 Games), Max Payne 1&2 Remake (Rockstar Games), or encore Codename Vanguard along with Tencent. But the publication of financial results, down slightly from last year, was also an opportunity to take stock. And all is well for Alan Wake 2 according to the CEO, who indicates that all content will be up soonbut also and above all that the title is playable from beginning to end ! Auspicious for release in 2023even if it will be necessary to wait for the announcement of a date to see more clearly.
Control 2 is progressing well and passes an important milestone
In any case, Remedy should very soon attack the polishing phase. Much less advanced than Alan Wake 2, Control 2 also advances correctly, always in the words of Tero Virtala, who seems very satisfied with the progress of the various projects:
Control 2 deepens the story and world of the original Control. We now have detailed concepts for the vision of the game and all creative areas, including gameplay, storytelling, and art direction. We are happy with the work done by the team and in January 2023 the game moved to the proof of concept stage.
In other words, the work on Control 2 has passed the very first phase of development, and could very soon enter pre-production. The concept and the first gameplay ideas have been validated, it remains to build the game itself and develop the necessary tools. The release is therefore not to be expected for several years, but things are progressing. For their part, Codename Condor and Codename Vanguard are still in this proo-of-concept phase, but teams are still being set up. Finally, let’s mention the remake of Max Payne 1&2, which is still in the design phase. We are told about a project that has made good progress, but we will have to be very patient. Everything therefore seems to be going for the best at Remedy, which is maintaining its course and its finances.
