Spiritfarer price rises in Steamthe successful indie of PCSteam Deck, PS4, Xbox One and Switch updates what it costs regionally and its creators have opened up about why.
“Today we approve and set the latest Steam regional price recommendations for our games,” they begin by saying from Thunder Lotus Games through the valve gaming platform.
In essence, the problem that they have seen is that the sales of the game have increased in certain countries but in the end its players are people who do not live there.
“For those of you who don’t know, Steam does not use currency types to set prices. […] they try to take many factors into account so that each player pays a fair price”, as can be read here.
Thunder Lotus Games relies on Steam with this, they have always done so since they published in 2015: “The alternative to manually establish, manage and update prices in more than 30 countries”.
But they believed that Steam’s new changes should take into account currency fluctuations in the world economy “especially countries where the price changes a lot more.
Turkey and Argentina in particular: we take you into account and appreciate you, we apologize if these changes affect you negatively.”
The creators of Spiritfarer have had to make this difficult decision
In essence they are trying to put it mildly that last year they saw a big increase in sales in those countries, but this did not increase the number of players of their title.
“85% of the sales coming from ‘Argentina and Turkey’ seem to come from people playing in other countries, people looking for the lowest possible price on Steam.
This seems to be a widespread issue on Steam, so he’s recommending an especially large increase to your regional prices.”
But what does it all mean? It is not a general price increase, but now the people of those two countries are going to have to pay much more for other people who have exploited this system.
“It’s not an easy decision, but we agree with it: the alternative is basically to encourage people to abuse the system and pay for our games far less than we know they’re worth.”
This has affected a user whose price has been doubled, a sample of what the creators of Spiritfarer have made.
