MediaTek introduced the Helio G36, unfortunately there was no breakthrough
MediaTek quietly showed a new processor in India – Helio G36. As the name suggests, the chip is the successor to the Helio G35. According to the manufacturer, the novelty will be installed in budget gaming devices.
The SoC is built on TSMC’s 12nm process technology. It has eight Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz. The chip comes with PowerVR GE8320 graphics as well as MediaTek’s proprietary HyperEngine 2.0 Lite technology to improve gaming performance.
The processor supports FHD+ displays up to 90Hz, cameras up to 50MP, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, Galileo, GLONASS and GPS. At first glance, there are almost no differences, but if we look closely, we will see that a more powerful image processing chip has been installed in the new model, thanks to which support for 90 Hz and 50 MP cameras has appeared. Let me remind you that the predecessor only supported 60 Hz and cameras up to 16 MP.
This means that even ultra-budget devices will begin to install matrices with an increased refresh rate and more decent cameras. Therefore, although there was no breakthrough in power, this update will improve the quality of smartphones from the lower price segment. The first smartphones based on MediaTek Helio G36 will appear in the near future.
