Google has begun testing a feature that will help users set their own keyboard shortcuts on the Chrome OS platform. This is evidenced by the hidden experimental settings “enable-shortcut-customization” and “improved-keyboard-shortcuts” that appeared in beta version of Chrome OS 111.

In one of the sections of the settings application, there was a list of keyboard shortcuts available for installation that should work in different parts of the platform and applications, as well as their default values. If necessary, the section allows you to return to the default values both for individual combinations and for all shortcuts at once. Unfortunately, the experimental function does not work properly yet: you can set the desired combinations, but pressing the keys does not produce any effects.
Hints about the appearance of a new feature in the OS have appeared before, and now it becomes clear how it will work. This means that in the coming weeks or months, the new feature will gradually roll out to users. Google itself has not yet commented on custom keyboard shortcuts in Chrome OS.
