For more than 4 decades, Indiana Jones has been one of the most beloved characters in adventure cinema. Harrison Ford got into the skin of the archaeologist for the first time in 1981, in Indiana Jones in search of the lost Ark.
However, one of the aspects that the fourth film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, he faced 15 years ago, were criticized due to the age of the actor himself, who was already 65 years old. People didn’t internalize a retirement-age Indy jumping between jeeps in the jungle or surviving a nuclear explosion in a fridge.
This brings us to the new movie of Indiana Jones, which arrives this year with the actor about to turn 81 years old. Is there a risk that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate repeat the mistakes of its predecessor? Harrison Ford doesn’t think so.
The actor has talked about the film in which James Mangold take over from Steven Spielberg as a director, and has focused on the tone we should expect from the new film.
Indiana Jones 5 has a tone according to the age of the character
Harrison Ford emphasizes, in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the fact that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate is consistent with the age the character has reached, and his tone will reflect that aspect.
“What I like is that we’re meeting him at a different point in his life than we’ve seen him in other movies. It’s a logical place for him to be at this stage, considering his behavior and what he’s doing right now. It’s a very interesting script that Jim came up with [James Mangold]”.
Despite Harrison Ford’s explanations, the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate did not skimp on action sequences in which Indy kept the flame of action burning. After all, it is still an adventure movie.
Unlike the legendary Henry Jones Sr.interpreted by Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, it seems that “junior” is still able to jump into action if necessary.
