When Square Enix announced the sale of its western studios to the Embracer Group, many raised their hands to their heads. What would happen to sagas as iconic as Deus Ex, Tomb Raider or Thief? And that’s not to mention the Marvel games developed by these studies.
Well, the situation has been clearing up little by little. Marvel’s Avengers has announced the end of its supportwhile Guardians of the Galaxy remains a nice memory, which did not sell as expected but convinced the players.
As to Tomb Raiderweeks ago there was talk of a possible purchase by Amazon (valued at 600 million dollars), but it seems that in the end it will not be like that (but they will publish the next game).

Tomb Raider Arcade Chapter 3
Lara Croft will continue to star in adventures, by Eidos and Crystal Dynamicsalthough this time under the umbrella of Embracer Group.
But you don’t just live on Tomb Raider. Embracer has revealed its financial results for the quarter from October to December 2022… giving us long teeth about everything that is coming to our consoles.
Five triple A from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos
Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, has revealed (via VGC) the company’s quarterly results, which are settled with a 128% increase in net salesand ambitious forecasts for the coming years.
For example, as many as five new Lord of the Rings games have been confirmed (counting the impending Lord of the Rings: Gollum), as well as 94 games for the upcoming fiscal year.
What about Crystal Dynamics and Eidos? To begin with, the studio responsible for Marvel’s Avengers is already working on a new Tomb Raider, which will be published by Amazon Games and will use Unreal Engine 5.
Nor should we forget that Crystal Dynamics is supporting The Initiative with Perfect Dark, the reboot of the Rare saga (which will be exclusive to Xbox and PC), even taking a prominent role in the development of Microsoft.
In the presentation, Embracer Group has confirmed that Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal will launch a total of five AAA games between now and March 2028which is when the fiscal year 2027-2028 ends.
These five AAA includes the new Tomb Raider (and maybe some more), as well as a new Deus Ex, the return of Thief… it’s not confirmed, yes.
What do you understand at Embracer Group by a triple A? They ensure that these projects will have more than 100 developers in chargewith expectations to sell a minimum of two million units, as well as allocate part of the high budget in ambitious marketing campaigns.
The release schedule for the first half of 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch and PC is CRAZY
These five AAA are part of a total of 31 high-budget gameswhich will come from both studios, as well as THQ Nordic, Gearbox, Saber Interactive or Deep Silver.
What will the new Tomb Raider with Unreal Engine 5 be like? We dream of seeing Lara Croft again, although we are also curious about that connected universe that Amazon proposes… and that we won’t know if it will ever come true.
