The Artificial Intelligence revolution continues and increasingly embraces the video game industry with MarioGPT, a special version of Super Mario Bros. for the NES which uses a Neural AI to generate infinite levels starting from simple sentences and terms.
Created by a team of researchers from the IT University of Copenhagen, MarioGPT is based on the algorithms of modello in Deep Learning GPT-2 to generate Super Mario Bros. levels in seconds using simple terms (or ‘prompts’).
The Neural AI that supervises the creation of the procedural levels of MarioGPT uses these prompts to ‘build’ the game worlds: by entering a list of prompts such as “many enemies, many pipes, difficult jumps”, the system takes care to instantly generate one or more variants of levels characterized, in fact, by the presence of numerous pipes, enemies and platform sections where you can try your hand at difficult jumps. At the bottom of the news you can admire a clip showing one of the infinite levels achievable in seconds with MarioGPT’s text editor.
