The first – and already epic – trailer for Tetris has arrived. The film, which will stream on Apple TV, stars Taron Egerton in the cast (Eggsy in Kingsman: Secret Service) as Henk Rogers, an entrepreneur who, after discovering the video game created by Aleksej Pazitnov, tries to find a big name in the industry to have it produced. The first news on the production dates back to 2020.
On the notes of The Final Countdown by Europe, we are catapulted to the end of the 80s. Rogers, is looking for someone to commercialize the game developed by Pazitnov (here played by Nikita Ezremov) in 1984: Tetris. The formula is simple and compelling – and addictive – at the same time. We don’t think special introductions are needed for what, for decades, has also remained the best-selling video game in history. It is one of the first video games sold bundled with a console, to be precise: il Game Boy. This partnership has contributed to mutual success.
The story of Pazitnov, a Russian in the Soviet period, may not be among the best known. Even less well known, however, is that of Rogers who, in an attempt to get the right recognition for the tetrominoes, will have to extricate himself from the various intrigues that have been woven behind the iron curtain.
While – clearly – fictionalizing part of that story to make it even more interesting for the general public (it’s a film, not a documentary), this is the goal of MaRv and AI Films. This is the idea of Jon S. Baird (director) and Noah Pink (screenwriter). The names of the producers: Matthew Vaughn, Gillian Berrie, Claudia Vaughn, Len Blavatnik, and Gregor Cameron. Executive Producer Iain MacKenzie.
