Later this year, Apple is reported to present the iPhone 15 series. This time we see the alleged design of the iPhone 15 Pro for the first time via 9to5Mac.
Rumors about the upcoming iPhone 15 series trickle in with some regularity. For example, it is known that the iPhone 15 will definitely abandon the Lightning port. Instead, we now find a USB-C port in its place, which is used for data transfers and charging smartphones. The fact that Apple is switching to USB-C has everything to do with European legislation that requires manufacturers to use USB-C on their mobile devices – including smartphones – from 2024. Other details of the devices in the iPhone 15 range remained largely unknown.
Renders iPhone 15 Pro
Until today: a series of renders have appeared via 9to5Mac revealing the design of the iPhone 15 Pro. The website based the renders on Apple’s CAD files for, for example, cover manufacturers. With these files they can start designing and testing their new designs in good time. 9to5Mac writes that the design and dimensions of such CAD files are “usually accurate.”
Design of recent MacBooks
The renders that the website had developed based on the files already confirm that Apple is making the switch to USB-C. At the bottom of the iPhone 15 Pro you will now find a USB-C port that is surrounded on both sides by speaker ports and microphone cutouts. It is unknown whether the iPhone 15 Pro contains two speakers at the bottom, or whether one of the recesses serves for symmetry.
If we look at the housing, it is striking that the whole seems less square at first sight. The glass on the front and back has been slightly rounded to allow for a smoother transition from the glass to the metal frame. The frame would also be slightly rounded, just like on the recent MacBook Pros and MacBook Air, so that the device fits better in the hand when you hold it.

A final detail that stands out about the CAD-based renders is that the camera island is considerably thicker than on its predecessor. Exactly how thick is not known, nor is it known what Apple intends to do with this extra space in the housing. There will be no extra cameras: the iPhone 15 Pro contains, just like the 14 Pro, three cameras on the back together with the LED flash and microphone.
Dynamic Island holds up
Fans of Apple’s Dynamic Island, which introduced it on the iPhone 14 Pro, can breathe easy. The successor to the notch of yesteryear returns on the iPhone 15 Pro. According to 9to5Mac, the Dynamic Island’s size is the same as its predecessor, and so is the 6.1-inch OLED screen. The bezels may have become thinner; the housing as a whole would have become slightly less wide and long.
