Normally the northern lights look much greener.
At the end of last week, a powerful flare occurred on the Sun, for some time cutting down radio communications in South America. The same flash caused the appearance of unusual northern lights of scarlet hues.
Such northern lights now watching residents of Norway and other countries in northern Europe. In addition, scarlet northern lights have appeared in some regions of the United States and Canada.

Normally, the northern lights don’t look like this: they are mostly dominated by green hues. The scarlet hues are caused by particles from the solar wind reaching Earth’s upper atmosphere.

According to Space.com, unusual northern lights can be observed on Earth until February 19. Perhaps their intensity will even increase: soon another stream of solar plasma will reach the Earth.
