The number of units sold has greatly exceeded the annual plan established at the beginning of the fiscal year, and we recognize that this is a title that we will continue to sell over the long term depending on our sales strategies, such as prizes, promotions and free DLC development.
A success that has therefore greatly exceeded the expectations of SEGA, which will not seek to reduce the price of the game in the weeks to come. Also during this meeting, the publisher indicates that it has held reductions for Black Friday but that the title has achieved such a performance with the first sale price.

Evidenced by the various ratings listed on the metacritic aggregator: Sonic Frontiers displays ratings between 61 and 75, or between 12.2/20 and 15/20. An opinion that is not shared by the public, whose user rating is at least 16.2/20 and reaches 17.2/20 and which has allowed it to sell well according to the publisher:

If it is complicated to grasp with certainty the reasons for the success, it must be said that SEGA has put the package on its mascot in 2022 with the most important year for the blue hedgehog : two video games were released, the second film was a hit in theaters while the Sonic Prime series arrived on Netflix.
The franchise therefore seems to be more flourishing than ever and 2023 is on the lookout. We should see the release of free downloadable content for Sonic Frontiers while information should be communicated around Sonic 3: the movie but also around the spin-off series around Knuckles with Idris Elba. Finally, there are also more or less advanced projects in preparation: Morio Kishimoto, director of Sonic Frontiers, had promised a “even more exciting and surprising experience” for the next 3D game and recently mentioned the return of two-dimensional games.
