Among the great Hollywood filmmakers, without a doubt one of the most talented there is right now is James Cameron, director behind several of the films highest grossing in film history.
Although he has been somewhat blunt with superhero cinema, there are certain films with which the director has been delighted. There are even some characters with whom he feels very identified, such as Thanos, one of the main villains of the marvel cinematic universe.
Why James Cameron feels so identified with Thanos
During an interview for TIME magazine, apart from commenting on his interest in having a woman direct a Batman movie, Cameron stated that he felt very identified with Thanos and his cause in the movies of the Cinematic Universe of Marvelwhose plan he managed to fulfill in Avengers: Infinity War (to be later countered by the heroes in Avengers: Endgame.
At the interview, the director addressed how blockbuster movies like his saga of Avatar are increasingly aligned with the climate change crisis. It’s at that point where, surprisingly, he cited the Marvel movies as an example of franchises that embrace that message.
Director of Avatar He pointed out that he feels very identified with Thanos because considers that his plan to erase half of the universe would be a good plan to combat climate change on the planet.
“I identify with Thanos. I thought I had a pretty viable answer. The problem is that no one is going to raise their hand to volunteer to be the half that has to go,” the filmmaker declared.
