02/22/2023 at 10:30 am by Matthias Brückle – On February 28, 2023 Guild Wars 2 will release the very first story patch of a new era – an adventure after the war against the Elder Dragons! On top of that, the developers have said goodbye to the Living World release cadence. So why is there still no trailer for this major patch?
In Guild Wars 2, a remarkable era has come to an end after ten years: the fight against the Elder Dragons seems to be over – the world has become much safer. But of course an MMORPG needs adventure and danger, so soon on February 28, 2023about a year after the release of Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, a new story is waiting for us.
This should also represent the beginning of a new type of content, no longer tied to the “living world” that has accompanied us in GW2 for years of new content. It always presented the developers with problems. Such a significant story patch should come with a lot of hype – one would think. But where does the hype stay? The community is asking the same question.

Guild Wars 2: Arenanet Fails to Build Hype
Many players had hoped around February 21, 2023 that there would be some kind of countdown with marketing until the release of the new patch – after all, the update is only a week away. But instead of a trailer or teaser or blog post, there was only an update for the in-game store in the game. Like every week. GW2 fans on Reddit find this rather…suboptimal:
“The lack of a trailer, even though the update is only a week away, is annoying…””I’m always surprised at how little hype Anet does. New content is coming in a week, why not post teasers.””The Marketing of GW2 has been appalling in the past.””I don’t even need a trailer, just a screenshot of the new zone, a preview, anything would be nice.”
In fact, so far there have only been these two pictures that have prepared for the post-EoD story:
What: Arenanet
What: Arenanet
Some fans are now simply postponing their hopes: in the past, new trailers have also been released on Fridays. As a result, the developers would only use a few days to make players aware of the release, but that would still be enough. Some players also remember trailers that only appeared on the release day and hope that it won’t happen again.
how do you see it? Is the missing trailer – a week before release – really a bad omen? Or is the whole thing not that important and hype is … overhyped? What are you hoping for from the story patch?
