Xiaomi introduced a prototype of an amazing technology for which the future
Augmented Reality (AR) technology has made significant strides over the past few years. A good sign for the technology is that Apple is interested in it, which means that big funds will be invested in the development of infrastructure and software. Augmented reality is used in many industries, from healthcare and education to games and entertainment. At this exhibition, Xiaomi presented a prototype of its AR glasses called Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition. In many sources they are mistakenly called Explorer Edition, but this is the name of a different model in the picture below
It looks like ordinary glasses and looks like a full-fledged commercial product, but as far as I understand, there are no publicly available working prototypes of this model yet. And this is what Smart Glass Discovery Edition looks like:
Here are their main characteristics:
Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chip Micro-OLED screen technology Full HD resolution with 1200 nits of brightness 3 front cameras Supports functions such as calling, navigation and photography Carbon fiber and magnesium alloy body, weighs only 126g Self-developed silicon-oxygen anode battery
Although the glasses are in the prototype stage, during the demo session the glasses worked as advertised with images floating in front of the user’s face and sensors picking up the user’s palm/hand gestures. Xiaomi has yet to announce when these glasses will be officially unveiled or what the price will be, but the prototype has generated a lot of hype among tech enthusiasts.
