The task carried out by this studio is indeed heavy. Almost all gamers who went through the “lifetime” of Final Fantasy XV when Hajime Tabata was still working, of course, remember the motivation behind this studio’s existence. That’s right, when the Luminous Engine, which incidentally was still relatively new at that time, was used as the basis for Final Fantasy XV, Luminous Productions was conceived to continue developing and continuing the implementation of this engine, with DLC for Final Fantasy XV as the focus. Even though this ended up being cancelled, Luminous Productions later gave birth to FORSPOKEN which, unfortunately, did not get as positive a response as imagined. Now instead of growing, Luminous has to face his worst nightmare.
Square Enix has officially shut down and disbanded what we know as Luminous Productions today. He will be integrated into the core Square Enix team to help create new and innovative experiences for gamers around the world. Currently they will continue to support FORSPOKEN, especially to fix performance issues that have been complained about. Unfortunately, there is no certainty whether Square Enix will continue to use the Luminous Engine in the future or not.
Luminous Productions officially disbanded and merged into the core Square Enix team.
Luminous Productions itself was first established in 2018 with a focus on continuing to develop and push the Luminous Engine. What do you think? Is this a good decision from Square Enix or not?
