Blizzard Entertainment employees held a stream dedicated to the mechanics and beta testing of Diablo 4. The developers paid special attention to the fortresses – this is a new system that was absent in the previous parts of the series.
Thanks to the fortress system, players will be able to gradually change the world of Sanctuary. Here’s how it works:
Initially, the fortresses are captured by monsters. The player can clear them, acting alone or as part of a group. As a reward for liberating the fortress, the player will receive high-quality equipment, experience and other rewards. The region around the cleared fortress will gradually become more alive – people will return here. After the destruction of the monsters, the fortress turns into a town inhabited by NPCs.
In addition, clearing fortresses will help increase the level of fame of the character. By knocking out monsters from settlements, players will be able to make new friends among representatives of various game factions.
Diablo 4 will be released on June 6, 2023 on PC and consoles of two generations.
