From video gameplays of Final Fantasy XVI shown so far, it emerges that the next blockbuster from Square Enix has a decidedly more marked Action imprint than in the past, which is why some players have compared the frenzy of the clashes to those seen in the Stylish Action series such as Devil May Cry.
These similarities are actually not surprising considering that there is behind the Final Fantasy XVI combat system Ryota Sukuziformerly part of Capcom and mastermind behind the acclaimed battle system of Devil May Cry 5. At this point, both being formidable warriors, who would win in a hypothetical fight between Clive Rosfield and Dante?
While it is true that these are characters with different backgrounds and protagonists of games belonging to two distinct genres, it was Suzuki himself who gave the answer to the question, who has no doubts that Clive from Final Fantasy 16 would best Dante in a battle against Capcom’s iconic half-demon. Clive would triumph thanks to his incredibles Eikon skillwhich would allow him to easily defeat not only Dante but also Neroanother protagonist of Devil May Cry starting from the fourth chapter of the series.
In all likelihood, being part of two completely different universes, there may never be a real answer to the question. Meanwhile the director Hiroshi Takai revealed that Final Fantasy 16 is also inspired by God of War, stating that the series Santa Monica Studio partly influenced him.
