Messenger and Facebook to integrate back into one app, as it was until 2014, when the company decided to separate platforms into independent programs, angering users. The possibility was revealed by the director of the social network Tom Alison, this Tuesday (7).
In an interview with CNN, the executive commented that Meta started tests to bring messaging features back to the facebook app. In this way, users will be able to communicate in real time, with friends and family, on the platform itself, without the need to open the messenger application.
The test for reintegration, also announced on the official blog of the technology giant, comes at a time when the conglomerate headed by Mark Zuckerberg is trying to regain the space lost to TikTok, especially among young people. The idea is to reinforce Facebook’s position as a platform for discovery and discussion.

“We believe that content contributes not only to you consuming it, but also to starting conversations and starting that thread of messages with your friends or being something that you can share in a group of people who share your same interests,” said Alison.
When it will be available?
For the time being, it is not known when the reintegration between Messenger and Facebook definitively. The company is currently just “testing the ability for people to access their Messenger inbox within the Facebook app,” with the test expanding soon.
Alison also said that new ways to integrate the messaging tool with the social network will be launched in 2024, but did not say whether the messenger app will remain available after the functionality returns to the main platform. Rumors that emerged in 2022 showed that big tech had been thinking about making the decision for at least four years.
In today’s statement, Meta reported that more than 140 billion daily messages are sent through all of its apps, including Instagram. Also according to the company, Facebook reached 2 billion daily active users in December last year, its highest mark to date.
