In recent months, 24 and 48 GB DDR5 RAM modules have begun to appear on sale. In particular, Corsair recently released a 48GB DDR5-7000 kit and a 192GB DDR5-5200 kit. Motherboard manufacturers, for their part, are doing their best to remind about the support of new modules by Intel LGA1700 processors, ignoring the AMD AM5 platform.
It turned out that AMD Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) processors are currently not friendly with large DDR5 modules. This is reported by the first owners of 24- and 48-gigabyte sticks, who decided to test them on AM5 motherboards. For example, a system based on ASUS ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming with current UEFI firmware and a Ryzen 5 7600X processor successfully detected a pair of 24 GB Corsair DDR5-5600 modules and even passed POST. However, the operating system does not boot.
This explains why motherboard manufacturers do not announce support for 24GB and 48GB DDR5 modules on AMD boards. It will probably be implemented in one of the future microcode updates. In the meantime, the owners of the AM5 platform should refrain from purchasing new modules with a capacity of 24 and 48 GB.
