BC “Frankivsk-Prykarpattia” finished in 4th place in its debut season in European Women’s Basketball League. In the final four, which took place in Warsaw, the Ukrainian team lost to both rivals.
In the semifinals, the club from Ivano-Frankivsk lost to the Czech “Khomutov” (76:86). Rivals already in the first quarter tried to create a reserve for themselves, breaking away by 9 points, but the Ukrainian basketball players reduced their gap to a minimum by the end of ten minutes, and at the beginning of the second quarter they took the lead.
It turned out that this was the last time when “Frankivsk-Prykarpattia” was ahead. By the end of the quarter, “Khomutov” had reached a double-digit advantage, in the third quarter they already won by 22 points. The last quarter started at -17 for the Ukrainian team, but it continued to fight, started the ten minutes with a 9:0 run, and with a minute to go, conceded -6. However, “Khomutov” kept the victory.
Khrystyna Filevych (28 points and 7 rebounds), Taisia Udodenko (24 points and 17 rebounds) and Oksana Mollova (13 points and 10 rebounds) scored most of the points for “Frankivsk”.
In another semi-finals “Polonia” from Warsaw lost to “Neptunas” from Klaipeda (73:79), and the most effective was Ukrainian Victoria Balaban, who scored 19 points.
In the main finals “Homutov” (Czech Republic) beat “Neptunas” (Lithuania) with a score of 77:73, and Frankivsk-Prykarpattia lost to Polish “Polonia” (53:100) in bronze finals
Already in the first quarter, the owners of the stadium in Warsaw secured a comfortable advantage, winning ten minutes 35:10. In the future, only in the last quarter, the basketball players of “Frankivska-Prykarpattia” managed to impose a struggle on their opponents, but the fate of the match was already decided. Hrystyna Filevych and Oksana Mollova scored 20 and 17 points, respectively, playing the match without substitutions.
Thus, having lost both matches of the final four in Warsaw, “Frankivsk-Prykarpattia” was left without awards from the European Women’s Basketball League. Kristina Filevych entered the symbolic five of the EWBL 2022/23 season.
