Every year, during the Oscar Awards ceremony, the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pays homage to those who have died since the previous edition was held. This tribute to the deceased is known as the In Memorial.
John Travolta presented this year’s tribute video, which brought together names like that of his Grease partner, Olivia Newton-Johnin addition to others such as those of Ray Liotta, Raquel Welch, Burt Bacharach, Wolfgang Petersen, Bob Rafelson, Jean-Luc Godard and Walter Mirisch.
However, the video did not include some names that Hollywood has lost in the course of this year and whose tribute at the In Memoriam of the Oscars seemed more than appropriate.
that the name of Anne Heche not being present at the tribute is possibly the most notorious, but it is not the only absence. Actors like Paul Sorvino or Tom Sizemore or Melinda DillonThey were not part of the tribute either.
Why does the Academy omit names from the Oscar In Memoriam?
Another name that has also resonated a lot due to its absence is that of Charlbi Deanprotagonist of The triangle of sadness, one of the nominees for Best film, who died at the age of 32 from bacterial sepsis. That the protagonist of a candidate film in the same year is not there is a clear indication that something is not right when it comes to making these tributes.
There are dozens of fans collecting names absent from this year’s Oscar In Memoriam, be it from a actor whom they have forgotten, or the director they did not see fit to remember.
Gone but certainly not forgotten. Take a moment to look back in remembrance of the artists and filmmakers we lost in 2022-2023. #Oscars95 https://t.co/zbvG5Kusle

This tribute always brings a tail at the Oscars: when it is not because of the notorious absences of the video review, it is because before, when the mics were left open, it seemed like a popularity contest where to see which deceased was “appreciated more”.
Be that as it may, the Academy once again sows controversy at the Oscars with a tribute that, coming from an organization dedicated to preserving and extolling the world of cinema, should be more meticulous with this type of situation.
