Former Diablo and World of Warcraft developers Julian Love and Jay Wilson have founded a new studio, Gas Giant Games.
This was announced today in an official press release. In addition to Wilson and Love, former THQ SVP of Business Development and Director of The Walt Disney Company Dan Kelly will serve as chairman of the newly founded studio working on the new ARPG.
The goal of the studio is to “create unusual and entertaining games that will be fun for us and our players.” The Gas Giant Games team currently consists of developers from various AAA franchises, including Dying Light, Dragon Age, Diablo, Overwatch, Gears of War, Cyberpunk 2077, World of Warcraft, Kingdom Hearts, Company of Heroes, and Warhammer Space Marine.
Julian and I, together and separately, created some of the best action, RPG and strategy games the gaming industry has ever seen. I felt that we could create new, outstanding games if we teamed up, brought together the best developers we know, and applied those skills to the games and game genres that we love.
“Action, RPG and strategy systems are the building blocks that can enhance almost any genre of game, and the past work of the growing Gas Giant team shows that they have the experience to know when, where and how to use them,” reads the rest. parts of the official press release. “Surrounded by the best talent in the industry, Jay and Julian have brought in veterans from successful titles such as Kingdom Hearts, Company of Heroes, Overwatch, Dragon Age 2, Space Marine, Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light, Gears of War…and many more. The team has spent the last two years developing several game concepts to find the game they most want to make.”
Gas Giant Games will be attending this month’s GDC event in San Francisco (March 20-24). While the team is not yet ready to unveil their new ARPG, the press release mentions that interested investors and publishers can get a private demo of the studio’s upcoming game.
“While we’re not yet ready to reveal all the details of our upcoming project to the world, we can say that fans of our past games will be thrilled with what’s in store for us,” said Wilson. “What I can say is that our game will feature frantic, visceral combat, exciting progression systems, and a unique survival experience – all wrapped up in a new and original world that we’re sure you’ll enjoy exploring.”
