BMW has announced an in-car Panoramic Vision Display that spans the full width of the windshield to provide drivers and passengers with useful information without having to take their eyes off the road. The display is built into the bottom of the glass. The driver will be able to select any combination of options to display, such as speed, time or the name of the track being played. The display has a bright backlight for a clear display of information.

BMW first mentioned the new head-up display when it unveiled its new i Vision Dee (Digital Emotional Experience) digital driver assistant concept at CES 2023 in January. However, then there was talk of displaying information directly on the windshield, as projection displays can do in many cars. Presented now Panoramic Vision is a specialized display built into the lower part of the windshield across its entire width.
“The BMW i Vision Dee demonstrates the possibilities offered by the combination of hardware and software. It allows us to use the full potential of digitalization to turn the car into an intelligent companion. This is how car manufacturers see the future, including BMW, which seeks to combine virtual experiences with real driving pleasure,” said BMW Group CEO Oliver Zipse.
It is not yet known whether any of the other features announced in the i Vision Dee concept, such as interactive communication and animation, will appear in BMW commodity vehicles anytime soon. The Panoramic Vision display is due to appear in BMW’s new range of electric vehicles in 2025. BMW plans to include in the Panoramic Vision the display of all additional functions of BMW iDrive. More likely, it will only be possible to find out more at the IAA Mobility 2023 exhibition in Munich in September this year.
