Io Interactive confirmed that the Hitman series is on hiatus and no next installment is in development. The reason is clear: the studio is completely immersed in the work for Project 007ambitious new project focused on the iconic James Bond albeit still shrouded in mystery.
There are still very few details revealed by IOI about its next game based on 007, but in the course of an interview with Eurogamer the team said they are very confident in their abilities and in the possibility of delivering a great product to fans, being their specialists in dealing with fictional secret agents.
“First of all, it’s really inspiring and inspiring to work with the team at Eon Productions, the people behind everything Bond. It’s a bit strange from my point of view because I’m used to defending Agent 47 from everything other people wanted to do with our Hitman franchise, and obviously they intend to do the same thing with the Bond franchise. So for our part, the aim was to find a meeting point with them to understand what James Bond means,” he says Christian Elverdamco-owner of IO Interactive, during the interview which also saw the involvement of the CEO of the Danish studio, Hakan Abrak.
“I remember once – continues Elverdam – that I was with Hakan and other members of the crew, as they walked in what we later discovered to be the streets of Havana in No Time to Die, to then arrive at M’s office. And you feel extremely humble while you understand the weight of what James Bond stands for.” The author therefore underlines that their main purpose in this phase of the work on the game is to “try to understand” the importance of the iconic character born from the pen of the writer Ian Flemingbut in any case they are not afraid of the challenge that awaits them: “I think I can safely say that we are good at fantasy agents given all we have learned with Hitman, and now we are discovering new ways of understanding fantasy agents with James Bond “.
In any case, we will still have to wait quite a while before getting our hands on the title: Project 007 could come out after March 2025, and in general it still seems very early to have a more precise launch window for the new videogame adventure of Bond.
