Team Meat surprises with the announcement of a new Super Meat Boy spinoff called Dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine. In cooperation with HeadupGames and Thunderfulgames a short video was released showing a puzzle game. After Super Meat Boy Forever (Our Test) from 2020, this is again a sign of life from the meatball or his archenemy.
The name appears to be a nod to Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. Released on Sega consoles in 1993 and ’94, it’s a PuyoPuyo clone (which in turn was cloned again with Kirby’s Avalance/Kirby’s Ghost Trap). dr Fetus game also goes in this direction as a match 4 puzzle game. In the video, however, you can already see the twist that the playing field is peppered with opponents, chainsaws and other traps known from Super Meat Boy.
Dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine is slated for release later this year. Nobody is left out and with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S , PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC, pretty much all current platforms are included. Team Meat even jokes in their tweet with a crossed out N-Gage. After 21 years, not appearing on this relic of bygone days shouldn’t be a problem.
