Update – Ubisoft responded to our inquiries with an official statement: “Ubisoft is working on a strategic reorganization of its subsidiaries in Europe. The process is ongoing and there are no details to share at this time. Ubisoft Milan, as part of the internal studio network , is not involved in this reorganization.” Original news follows.
We learn from Wired Italia that Ubisoft has closed its Italian branch, laying off 14 employees. The French giant is making a series of cuts to better face the challenges of the market and after the cuts in Belgium now comes the news of the closure of Ubisoft Spa in Italy resulting in the layoffs of 14 employees.
Ubisoft Milano is not part of this operationwhich remains active under the direction of the French holding, this team is responsible for games such as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, furthermore Ubisoft Milan is responsible for supporting the publisher’s other international studios, dealing with wide-ranging projects breath in collaboration with other Ubisoft teams.
If the study therefore remains open, the Italian branch of Ubisoft closeswe do not know what will happen to the marketing and distribution of Ubisoft games in our country, the situation will probably be clearer in the next few hours.
We remain available for any declarations or clarifications from the publisher about the future of Ubisoft’s activities related to the distribution, marketing and publication of new video games on the Italian market. For our part, we have tried to contact Ubisoft Italia and we are awaiting a response from the company, we will update the news as soon as we have more details.
From April 1st, Ubisoft Benelux also closes, the restructuring plan therefore seems to involve other European branches and does not involve only Italy.
