The Tower, which climbed to the top of the Netflix charts in the UK and Ireland this month, is getting a sequel.
According to Deadline, director Scott Mann and Tea Shop Productions are discussing a sequel to Netflix’s surprise hit. Many viewers reacted to the film by calling it an “alarm-inducing” thrill ride.
“We have a few ideas we’re considering,” said James Harris, co-founder of Tea Shop. “We don’t want to do something that feels like an imitation or worse than the first film.”
The thriller tells the story of two women who climb a 2,000-foot-high TV tower and find themselves on top of it. The Tower grossed nearly $22 million on a budget of just $5 and is currently one of the top 10 most watched Netflix movies in four countries. The film stars Grace Caroline Kerry, Virginia Gardner, Mason Gooding and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
“We were pleasantly surprised that everyone reacted so strongly to this film,” said Harris. “This is one of those films where word of mouth really helps.”
Mark Lane, another co-founder of Tea Shop, backed him up, stating:
It’s an easy thing for people to pick up on streaming. You can see the concept in the poster image, and we’ve found that if people try it, they get hooked instantly.
