03/18/2023 at 3:00 p.m. by Karsten Scholz – The developers at Techland have announced their next project. After Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human, the Polish creatives now want to develop an AAA role-playing game with an open world and fantasy setting. For this, the studio has brought experienced Witcher expertise on board.
Surely you have heard of Techland before. The Polish studio has been around for more than 30 years and is best known for the Call of Juarez, Dead Island and Dying Light game series. And it is precisely these developers who now want to jump into a genre that they have previously only had contact as publishers (for Torment: Tides of Numenera)…
Open world fantasy RPG with AAA budget
Techland’s official website states: “After the success of Dying Light and the great sales of Dying Light 2 Stay Human so far, we are ready to embark on a new adventure. Our current project is an unannounced AAA Open World action RPG in a fantasy setting.” The developers also tweeted that it will be an epic narrative set in an exotic world and will utilize the best aspects of the gameplay that Techland is already known for (making the course movement system confirmed?^^).

Aside from the first teaser images (see above), there are still details about the team that is supposed to be working on the role-playing game. are on board Karolina Stachyra als Narrative Director (Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Arkadiusz Borowik als Narrative Lead (Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Bartosz Ochman al Open World Director (Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Mario Maltese als Creative Director (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Mad Max), David McClure als Lead Game Designer (Deathloop), Kevin Quaid as lead animator (Horizon Zero Dawn) and Marcin Surosz as Lead UI/UX Designer (formerly at People Can Fly).
As part of the announcement, Techland’s CEO, Paweł Marchewka, said they would like to continue supporting Dying Light 2 for five more years. At the same time, they have the ambition to launch a brand new IP that is very different from what the studio has been doing in recent years: “We want to create a completely new experience. A new fantasy epic that in a expansive open world, building on the skills and experience we have accumulated as a team over the years and infused with new ideas, passion and creativity.”
