Ukrainian gymnast Oleg Vernyaev returns to big sport. The Olympic champion said that he opposes a boycott of the 2024 Olympics if Russian athletes are allowed there:
“What to do if Z-Rashists are allowed in? What I did two years ago in Ukraine with some people in our hall. Just ignore everything. This is already the situation. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. Climbing to fight – no, you will only make things worse for yourself and your team.
Therefore, you just need to perform, prepare, give your maximum in order to show results and fight. Just somehow agree in advance so as not to stand on the same pedestal with them.
How did you find out about the removal of the disqualification? I came from the rocking chair and I got a message. Earlier we were told that there would be an answer by the end of March. And I’ve been waiting for this message all along. It has arrived, I open the file, translate the first page and understand that this is already the answer. I put the phone down for 10 minutes. Then I looked and read that they had reduced the disqualification by two years. And this period has already passed.
For 3-4 hours I was pounding. Didn’t realize it was over. It’s great, now I can officially return to training, go to the gym. On Tuesday I was already in the gym, training. Most importantly, we have proven that I did not take a deliberately prohibited drug. The court found that it was not my fault. I don’t want to understand anymore. I got the result, I don’t need anything else, I’m satisfied.”
