While the American giant has just invested heavily in artificial intelligence ChatGPT, the firm does not intend to stop there. Indeed, Microsoft could add a new string to its bow. According to a recent rumor, the giant is very interested in a promising new industry.
A crypto wallet signed Microsoft? The leak giant’s unexpected new project
If the American giant had been quite discreet until now on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, the company nevertheless seems to be preparing the ground. At least, that’s what user Albacore, known for his finds before their official release, reports.
On March 17, the user unveiled a brand new feature for Microsoft’s browser, with supporting evidence. Through several screenshots, it is clear that the multinational could integrate a crypto wallet into Microsoft Edge.
“The latest discovery in Microsoft Edge’s upcoming weird features is a crypto wallet. I’m not sure what I think about this kind of stuff built into the default browser, what do you think? punctuates Albacore, the Twitter user behind the discovery.
Newest in the gauntlet of questionable upcoming Microsoft Edge features, a crypto wallet 💸
Not really sure how to feel about this kind of thing being baked into the default browser, what are your thoughts?

If at the moment, we are not aware of all the various features that this one offers to the users, it still seems to be similar to other crypto wallets available on the market. Thus, according to the screenshots released by Albacore, the Microsoft Edge crypto wallet offers multiple features such as:
Storing multiple cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, EthereumStoring non-fungible tokens (NFT)Sending cryptos across multiple networksCryptocurrency swappingBuying cryptocurrencies via Coinbase or Moonpay (influential players in the crypto industry)Consult the transactionsAccess news related to the cryptocurrency community
For now, it is impossible to know if this crypto wallet signed Microsoft will really see the light of day. However, according to the media Bleepingcomputer, access to the Crypto Wallet is already available for developers registered under the “Microsoft Edge Dev Channel”.
They can already initialize their crypto wallet by choosing their password and recovery phrase. Once these steps have been completed, the new wallet seems to be ready to usewhich suggests that the feature could potentially be released to the general public eventually – although Microsoft does not confirm anything :
“At Microsoft, we regularly test new features to explore new experiences for our customers. We’re eager to learn and gather customer feedback, but we don’t have anything else to share at this time. “indicates the Microsoft spokesperson.
Microsoft is accelerating its adoption of web 3
If the company founded by Bill Gates had more or less stayed away from the blockchain industry, this one seems to be accelerating its adoption of web 3 lately.
By developing functionalities related to cryptocurrencies on its browser, Microsoft is strategically placing itself ahead of its competitors, since currently Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome do not offer their own crypto wallets. However, other browsers known as web 3 already occupy this market, this is the case of the Opera browser or Brave to name a few.
In addition, this new feature echoes another initiative of the giant. In the same register, Microsoft has recently approached a player in the crypto sector: Ankr. This partnership will notably aim to develop the use of blockchain technology for professionals.
