5G continues to expand in Portugal, carried out by the three main telecommunications operators. Altice Portugal recently celebrated the arrival of the 5G network to Pedrógão Grandebecoming the first operator to bring state-of-the-art technology to this region.
The 5G base station is located on Monte Nossa Senhora da Confiança, and guarantees the necessary access and connectivity to Pedrógão Grande. The aim is to promote its economic growth in an integrated and sustainable way.
Enhanced 4G coverage and 5G capacity growth by 2025
In a statement, Altice Portugal reveals that it will continue to invest in the region, in terms of the mobile network. By the end of 2025, the operator expects to reinforce 4G coverage and increase the municipality’s 5G capacity.
“It is with great satisfaction that we traveled to Pedrógão Grande to mark this moment, which will positively mark the technological future of the region. Altice wants to continue to add value and be a reference partner for parishes and municipalities in Portugal, offering its services and dictating trends in the area of research and development”, says João Teixeira, Chief Technology Officer of Altice Portugal.
António Lopes, President of the Municipality of Pedrógão Grande, says that “The availability, by Altice, of 5G technology in Pedrógão Grande constitutes an important milestone in the development of the Municipality, providing it with modern communication conditions”.
The operator claims that Altice Portugal’s 5G already covers 90% of the population. By municipality, it is the operator that presents 5G base stations in the largest number of municipalities. This expansion will continue for years to come.
