As part of the „Atelier 25th Anniversary Progam #5“-Livestreams (via Anime News Network) the people in charge of Koei Tecmo announced today with “Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout” a new anime series for the popular JRPG series with a first Trailer at. The film adaptation of the video game of the same name will be based on the 21st main installment in the “Atelier” franchise, which is also the first installment in the “Atelier Ryza” series, a sub-series within the franchise. The anime series is scheduled to start on Japanese TV in the summer of 2023.

During the live stream, the first details of the upcoming video game adaptation were also revealed. So those responsible announced that the anime series will be created in the studio Liden Films, Inc., or LIDENFILMS. In recent years, the company has been responsible for well-known productions such as “Cells at Work! Code Black, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, and Tokyo Revengers.
Ema Yuzuriha will direct, while Yashichiro Takahashi, the original’s screenwriter, will oversee script development and series composition. Character designs are by Tomoyuki Shitaya (“Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma”). The composer of the “Atelier Ryza” games, Kazuki Yanagawa, will also contribute to the anime adaptation and write the soundtrack for the TV series.
By the way, fans of the original can look forward to even more well-known names, because the Japanese voice actors and voice actors of the JRPG titles will also be part of the upcoming show. These include Yuri Noguchi as the protagonist Reisalin Stout aka Ryza, Yui Kondou in the role of Tao Mongarten and Takuma Terashima as the voice of Lent Marslink. The three can also be seen in the trailer for the anime. Also on board are Haruka Terui as Lila Decyrus, Hitomi Oowada as Klaudia Valentz and Hirofumi Nojima, who will once again play the role of Empel Vollmer.
The focus of “Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout” is the young Reisalin, called Ryza, who wants to escape the tranquil village life together with her friends. During a detour to a forbidden island, they meet an old magician who, after initial hesitation, teaches our heroine the art of alchemy. This is how a great adventure begins that will change her life forever.

The JRPG original of the same name was developed by Gust (“Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg”) and was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch and the PC (via Steam). On March 24, 2023, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, the latest installment in the series, will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch.
