Former super middleweight world champion Carl Froch I am sure that the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) by cunning got a fight against the former owner of these belts Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs), showing uncertain performance in the fight against Derek Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs).
“That evening, in the battle with Chisora, Usyk was simply in no hurry to go anywhere. He played his mind games. Usyk knew that Anthony Joshua was watching him, and thought: “If I show my entire arsenal in the first heavyweight fight, it will scare him away.” So Usyk never turned on second gear in a duel with Chisora.
Usyk did not go beyond third gear and scored a comfortable victory on points. I believe AJ looked at it and thought, “I can beat this guy, he’s having a hard time at heavyweight,” Froch said.
Note that Usyk defeated Chisora in 2020 by unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 117-112).
