Most movie fans will associate Captain Marvel with the powerful, intergalactic Marvel Avenger, played by Oscar winner Brie Larson. But the competition also has a hero with the same name in their portfolio. The Captain Marvel von DC was created more than 25 years earlier and its comic books were once even more successful than those of Superman and Batman. However, there doesn’t seem to be much left of this popularity in 2023. Shazam! Fury of the Gods proves to be a huge disappointment at the box office.
Shazam 2 flops at the box office
It was already implied. Public interest in the previews of Shazam! Fury of the Gods rather restrained. And that’s almost positively expressed. Just $3.4 million was able to bring in the second screen adventure of Black Adam’s nemesis in the home market. And things didn’t look any better on the official launch day (in the US, films are usually released in cinemas on Fridays).
With disappointing $11.7 million launched Shazam! Fury of the Gods in North America. In this turnover are already the numbers of Previews included. For comparison: Part 1 was not an outstanding blockbuster, but it started almost twice as successfully. $20.4 million were on the credit side after the first and so important Friday.
Shazam 2: The DC Extended Universe perishes
With Shazam! Fury of the Gods seems to confirm what was unfortunately already foreseeable. Since that DC Extended Universe despite still outstanding films like The Flash (15.06.), Blue Beetle (17.08.) and Aquaman 2 (21.12.) is already history, the film fans apparently save the cinema ticket and prefer to wait for Shazam! Stream Fury of the Gods.
