The Destiny community mourns the loss of the voice actor and promotes setting up their own monument in the game. In addition, one speaks out against a replacement.
The Destiny series started in 2014 and meanwhile a die-hard community has formed around the sci-fi shooter. Not only the gameplay, but also the memorable characters have impressed the players. One character that will be remembered for a long time is undoubtedly Commander Zavala. He will be voiced by voice actor Lance Reddick, also known for his roles in John Wick, The Wire and Lost. Now the voice actor has died of natural causes at the age of 60, according to news.
Destiny: That’s how important Reddick was to the community
The death of Reddick dominates the mood within the Reddit community and so numerous expressions of grief are spreading. Many condolences can be read, especially on Reddit. The community has called for people to meet at Zavala’s tower and mourn in silence there. Other players express their sadness with sad emotes. “I hope Bungie puts a permanent memorial in the game to honor Lance,” said one player. “He was not only a VA for the commander, but also a player like us.”

Other players hope that Zavala will not be replaced by another voice actor. “Bungie should do what Marvel did with Chadwick Boseman and see him off with the credit he deserves,” says another Destiny player. Also the developer studio Guerrillia Gameswho have worked with Reddick on projects like Horizon: Forbidden West say thank you for everything Reddick has given them.
