Synopsis
Philip Glass (1937) is considered one of the most influential composers of recent decades. Quatro Estações Americanas (2009) is his 2nd Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, composed in dialogue with As Quatro Estações by Vivaldi. The long-awaited premiere in Portugal of this work takes place at this concert and is in charge of the Budapest Chamber Orchestra “Franz Liszt”, for more than five decades among the most prestigious in the world, and the British Jack Liebeck, considered one of the great violinists of today , with a wide and award-winning discography.
The concert opens with two works by Arvo Pärt (1935), whose creative legacy has had an enormous impact on contemporary music. Orient & Occident (2000), in its Portuguese debut in this concert, has as its structural background a text of a liturgical nature, the Credo, used both in Western and Orthodox Christianity and which is also the basis for Summa (1978).
Between the works of Pärt and Glass, the timeless music of Bach emerges, with the interpretation of the famous Concerto BWV 1056 by the pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, who also assumes the musical direction.
