This is the average time it takes to complete 100% of the content on Final Fantasy 16. This was confirmed directly by Square Enix during an interview granted to Famitsu magazine then translated from Japanese to English with a post on Twitter by user Aitakimochi.
The interview is a kind of deep-dive of time information regarding Final Fantasy 16. According to the developers, about 35 hours may be enough to complete the main campaign but more than double (between 70 and 80) in case you are a completionist satisfied by the achievement of all available objectives. To reveal it, in particular, is Hiroshi Takai director of the game who lent himself for the chat together with Naoki Yoshida.
Just Yoshida glosses over Takai’s words by explaining that initially the goal was an average duration of 20 hours. Then, as development progressed, some things were added that significantly increased the estimated duration to reach the end credits. Takai reveals that he has also thought of a compromise that can be estimated in 24 hoursa day in short.
Some details also regarding the duration of the cutscenes. Already weeks ago we had news of about a dozen hours of footage that would have pushed the plot forward. Apparently, according to the revelations of the director and producer, this is a downward estimate that does not take into account the cutscenes in some battles.
The two also explain that the initial idea – that of maintaining a shorter duration – is the daughter of another consideration already revealed in the past. THEn Square Enix say they are aware that the time available to players to focus on a single title has significantly decreased. That’s why, we remind you, Final Fantasy 16 will not feature turn-based mechanics which some continue to invoke but absent from the main series for some time.
Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PlayStation 5 exclusively on June 22, 2023. The exclusivity could last longer than six months. After this, the game is expected on PC. Nothing new about a possible Xbox Series X or Series S edition.
The newest Famitsu magazine has new(?) bits of game info for FF16 from the previously released interview with the devs.
Takai says there will be a leader board that you can compete with players around the world, allowing for endless gameplay. Here’s my translation:
