Russian authorities and IT market participants have begun developing a project for a domestic Android-based mobile ecosystem. Writes about this “Kommersant”.
According to the newspaper, the project is “formed and supervised” by the Center for Expertise and Coordination of Informatization under the Ministry of Digital Development. In the spring, the development will be provided to the relevant Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The need is explained by the fact that recently many applications of Russian developers have been removed from foreign stores.
The first meeting was attended by representatives of VK, Yandex, Sberbank, Rostelecom, Open Mobile Platforms, domestic manufacturers of consumer electronics (Aquarius, F + tech and others), as well as developers from Kaspersky Lab, Astra Group (Astra Linux), Basalt SPO (Alt Linux) and others.
Russian companies planned to form a consortium to develop a publicly available operating system for smartphones late last year.
