Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 single-chip platform – as previously reported, this is the latest chip for mid-range smartphones, which will replace the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new chip will be more productive than its predecessor and more energy efficient. In addition, it received support for 200-megapixel cameras, VRS technology for games and the Qualcomm aptX lossless compression codec. And the AI Super Resolution function will improve the picture in games and photo quality.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will feature some of the features found in the Snapdragon 8 series chips – the novelty is the first mid-range processor to receive a Cortex-X2 core. The maximum frequency is 2.91 GHz. Another novelty received three Cortex-A710 cores with a frequency of up to 2.49 GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. CPU performance has increased by more than 50% compared to its predecessor, and GPU performance has doubled. Energy efficiency increased by 13%.
In addition, the new platform features Snapdragon Elite Gaming which, among other things, provides support for Variable Shading Rate (VRS) to optimize the rendering of objects like smoke and fog in games. Snapdragon Sound supports the Qualcomm aptX lossless audio compression codec.
There is also support for 200-megapixel cameras (or three 32-megapixel cameras) and optimized HDR video shooting. The 18-bit Spectra Triple ISP module allows you to take up to 30 shots in low light conditions and combine them into a brighter, sharper photo. Qualcomm also says the chipset allows the camera to capture more than 4,000 times more information for a wider dynamic range.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 received a Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF modem with support for the activity of two SIM cards simultaneously for 4G and 5G networks. Provides download speeds up to 4.4 Gbps. The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 modem provides up to 3.6Gbps Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
AI-related work delivers 40% better performance per watt than last year’s chipset. The new mobile platform received support for smart image resolution scaling in games and photos using the AI Super Resolution function.
The presented platform will be used by many smartphone manufacturers, but the first devices will be released by Xiaomi (Redmi) and realme. Qualcomm says the chipset will debut in smartphones by the end of this month. Details can be found on the Qualcomm website.
