The name Geogen is an acronym for “geographical genealogy”. You can use the tool directly in your browser, no installation is necessary. When the application is started, the name “Stoepel” is entered as an example – this is the name of the developer who offers the app for free.
You can enter your own name in the “name>” field at the top left. A 3D column chart immediately appears on the map of Germany. The longer the pillar, the more people with the same name live there.
You can rotate the three-dimensional map as you like by clicking and dragging. By the way, you can see statistics about your name at the top left. This includes, for example, the “rank”. The smaller the number, the more common the name – so Müller easily takes first place and the whole map turns blue.
