It turned out that the players prefer something more traditional.
Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes, the prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5, is 9 years old. On this occasion, game designer Hideo Kojima toldthat the game was an experiment: there was a chance that Ground Zeroes would launch an episodic project.
Kojima recalls that he realized that the development of games can take several years, during which time a lot changes. The game designer admitted that instead of one large project, it is worth releasing several smaller ones.

The development of a full-fledged game took 4-5 years, during production, many things in the world changed. So I thought, maybe suggest an episodic format, like a streaming series, where episodes are created and released one at a time. Ground Zeroes was supposed to be an experiment.
It turned out, says the developer, that the players are not ready for such experiments. Many fans expected Ground Zeroes to be a complete game; Kojima realized that the time had not yet come for an episodic Metal Gear.
It’s worth noting that Telltale’s The Walking Dead came out two years before Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. There were no questions about the episodic nature of the game.
There were rumors that Kojima tried at least once more to make a game divided into episodes – this time it was a horror game for the Google Stadia platform. The platform allegedly abandoned the project.
