Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 is reportedly getting a much larger cover screen than its predecessor. The foldable flip phone would even get two screens on the cover.
The foldable segment is fully committed to the cover screens this year. OPPO’s Find N2 Flip includes the largest cover screen to date, with a 3.26-inch diagonal. Motorola seems to take over that crown with its new Razr smartphone, which will have a cover screen the size of one half of the back. They are also not sitting still at Samsung, reports SuperRoader. The rumor announces that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 contains two cover screens.
Two cover screens
The first cover screen is rumored to be next to the cameras. This screen is most similar to the small 1.1-inch cover screen of the OG Galaxy Z Flip. This screen is rumored to show the time, battery percentage and AR emojis, among other things. On the shared renders of the Z Flip 5, we see a second, 3.4-inch size cover screen just below this small panel.

The images show a screen that takes up almost the entire width of the back and extends to just above the hinge. Exactly how users can use this screen is currently unknown. Samsung may reuse the widget system of the current Galaxy Z Flip devices, which you can use to view your calendar, among other things. It doesn’t appear that you can use the cover screen with the regular Android interface, as you can on Razr devices.
Water drop hinge
SuperRoaders’ renders also give us a first look at the housing of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The sides no longer seem rounded and are designed flat, just like on the most recent iPhones. At the corners, the device seems more rounded than its predecessor, the Z Flip 4. In the frame we find – just like with its predecessors – the power button with integrated fingerprint scanner.
Another key feature of the new Z Flip 5 is its waterdrop hinge. We already know it from the Razr and Find N2 Flip, among others, and its main advantage is that the folding seam of the foldable screen is less visible. On the outside, this is mainly reflected in the fact that the Flip can be folded flat and therefore no dirt can get between the screen parts.
First specs
Not much is known about the device itself. The phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s For Galaxy version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The device may also receive an IPX8 rating, making it water resistant. It is not dust-resistant, but that is not a real surprise for the time being with its flexible structure.
The launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will probably not take place until August. Normally, Samsung launches its foldable Z Flip and Z Fold models in the run-up to IFA in Berlin. During the Unpacked event, we may also welcome the Galaxy Watch 6 this time.
