Since the start of content phase 2, all mace users in WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic can get the Ulduar Legendary Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings earn In addition to strong values, the healer’s flask shines with a very special effect:
Invest: Your healing spells have a chance to summon the Blessing of Kings of Ancients for 15 seconds, causing your heals to encase the target in a shield absorbing damage equal to 15 percent of the amount healed. (Proc chance: 10 percent, 45 second cooldown)

How exactly does Val’anyr work?
Incidentally, the last part of the tooltip did not exist at the time, which is why many players wondered how the weapon proc actually worked in detail. So many players that themselves Blizzard was forced to issue a lengthy statement in May 2009. Here are the most important insights from Bornakk’s post:
The proc has a 10% chance to trigger whenever a healing effect or direct heal restores health. The proc grants a buff to the healer carrying Val’anyr. This buff now causes all heals to leave a damage shield for 15 seconds that lasts 8 seconds. The shield effect stacks with itself. Shield strength is based on healing done, not health restored. The shield can grow to a maximum size of 20,000 damage absorbed. Only heals that actually restore health can trigger the proc. So HoTs on a healthy target don’t earn any procs.

Is the WotLK Classic version of Val’anyr buggy?
A short time ago, WoW streamer and Youtuber Scottejaye was able to get the legendary mace in WotLK Classic, and his feedback after some tests: Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings does not seem to work as the developers explained at the time. His observation: Val’anyr’s effect can penetrate Hallowed Shield be triggered by paladins even though the shield spell does not heal the target.
However, for many holy paladins, the preparations just before the pull include taking the tank with them Hallowed Shield to protect. So the bug allows you to unintentionally trigger the internal cooldown of the Val’anyr effect, which in turn means you can’t efficiently trigger the Legendary’s powerful shield effects for the first 35-45 seconds.
